I swear, John Smedley told MTV Multiplayer this. I would not be shocked to see SOE take advantage of the PSP in further expanding the MMO experience. Smedley made mention of the number of PSPs that have been sold, 34 million and counting, and the gained exposure to the unit that SOE has had since being brought under the SCE umbrella. (I told you that this was going to be a bigger deal than people wanted to let on).
Will SOE bring complete MMOs to the PSP? Maybe not initially, but that could be a possibility. Smedley mentioned that having the ability to interact with various aspects of a MMO via the PSP and then having it affect your experience when you play the MMO would be the start. He mentioned Free Realms could use the PSP for “pet training” or having mini games playable via the PSP that would increase your characters level in a SOE MMO. I think this is a good idea.
Would you like to see MMO interaction on the PSP? I remember that when DC Universe Online was initially announced, the PSP was one of the platforms it was announced for. This has not been spoken of much recently though. It would be great to be able to level up your hero or villian while on the go. Oh yea, I forgot to mention that Smedley was aware of the lack of wi-fi everywhere, your info would upload when you connect your PSP to the Internet via wi-fi.
