The Japanese PS Store is now home to some classic TurboGrafx-16 games. The TurboGrafx-16 was huge player in Japan during the 16-bit era. Named the PC Engine in the far east it outsold the original Famicom (NES). The initial success of TurboGrafx-16 in the west was promising, but sales tapered off after the SuperNES was released.
At the time Nintendo was working diligently behind the scenes making life tough for developers who supported the system in the west. It did quite well against the Super Famicom in Japan, due to it’s wide range of side scrolling shooters and the quality of it’s arcade ports. Available now in the Japanese PS Store you can find: Bomberman ’94, New Adventure Island (Takahashi Meijin no Shin Boukenjima), Sengoku Mahjong and Devil Crush. Each will set you back a mere ¥600. Just like the PS One titles you can play the TurboGrafx-16 games on PSP or PS3.
No word on whether this will come to the western hemisphere, do we have any old school TurboGrafx-16 fans here?
