It seems like ever since the European PlayStation.Blog went live, SingStar–and the SingStore–has been given a boost in support lately. Karaoke fans have been treated to consistent updates, contests, and new features. However, content variety could always give the singer an edge over the competition.

Fortunately, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has finally announced the debut of Universal Music Group on the SingStore for the European region this August.

“Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has signed a deal with Universal Music UK that will see hit songs from Universal Music coming to SingStore™, the online store for SingStar™ on PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) throughout SCEE territories. This is great news for SingStar fans, with more chart-topping hits from the biggest names, more choice and more songs to sing with your friends and family.

The first major installment will be arriving on 8th August 2009, including classic hits from Elton John and The Police, right up to the latest sounds of Kaiser Chiefs and The Killers.”

On top of this announcement, the following tracks have been announced for release this August:

  • The Cardigans – “Lovefool”
  • Cher – “If I Could Turn Back Time”
  • Elton John – “Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going To Be A Long Long Time)”
  • Girls Aloud – “Love Machine”
  • Gloria Gaynor – “I Will Survive”
  • Hoobastank – “The Reason”
  • Kaiser Chiefs – “Ruby”
  • Keane – “Everybody’s Changing”
  • The Killers – “Somebody Told Me”
  • Kool And The Gang – “Celebration”
  • Lloyd – “Get It Shawty”
  • Lynyrd Skynyrd – “Sweet Home Alabama”
  • Motorhead – “Ace Of Spades”
  • Musical Youth – “Pass The Dutchie”
  • Nirvana – “Come As You Are”
  • Patsy Cline – “Crazy”
  • The Police – “Don’t Stand So Close To Me”
  • Scissor Sisters – “Laura”

It is unconfirmed when or if Universal US will make its debut on the United States’ SingStore, but it is safe to say that players will appreciate singing along to tracks by artists like Eminem, U2, Nelly, 50 Cent, and much more.
