As always the online mode is fantastic. It will make you love and hate the game at the same time, but both in good ways. Madden is probably one of the only games I’ve seen good friends almost get into a fight over based on an online outcome. It is sad, but true. It can bring out the worst in people, because typically the people that play it religiously online are hardcore. There are the quitters that disconnect on you when you start whooping them, or when their “guaranteed” plays don’t seem to work on your well planned defense. But with the anti-cheating features built into the game, these events don’t really detract from the overall experience. This is also the first time trophies have been implemented in a Madden title on the PlayStation console, so for all you trophy whores out there, get to it! They’re both fun and easy to collect.
Overall, the game is good, and definitely worthy of a purchase. Especially for fans that have been turned off over the past few years because of the way the series was going. EA Sports took many steps in the right direction this time, and created a damn near perfect NFL game. It is a lot more fun, realistic, and mechanically sound. If you are on the fence about this one, give it a shot. I promise you will not be disappointed, aside from the few faults that I mentioned, such as the poor Superstar Mode and lacking half-time events.
