The gaming industry has gotten bigger and better with each passing year, but sometimes they just don’t do things right. Whether it’s gameplay, story, pricing, or business practice, sometimes the industry needs a little friendly fire from the gamers to keep it in line.
Other times, developers look down their sight and fire off a well placed bullet right into our unexpected head. This is Josh & Cameron, and this is a special TGS edition of Headshots & Friendly Fire.
A Bit of Friendly Fire
- The Numbers Game – Numbers are great and we all love them while in Algebra class but Sony needs to give them a rest. It has become a trend for Sony to spend the first 45 minutes of their press conferences going on about PS2 sales numbers, PS3 attach rate, and etc. It’s great that the numbers are solid and as Sony fans we should def. be pumped about this but people pay attention to these conferences for one thing and thats the games. People want to get surprised by unannounced games and want to be wowed by amazing videos. Forget the numbers guys, let the games do the talking for you. Give us excitement, give us something new and make us excited for your product. Oh and please Sony stop talking about the PS2, you should be focusing on the PSP and PS3, people don’t come to hear about the PS2.
- PSP R(Infinity!)m – C’mon Sony, now your giving PSP a Home too? You barely support the PS3 Home. Sony needs to quit treating the PSP like a portable PS3, and start giving it applications that are useful for a handheld. Now, if it turns out that the avatars just hang out on your PSP like Xbox avatars or Mii’s, then I will still hate them, but not as much; however, if Sony actually tries to make a home-like space, then it will prove to everyone that they have no idea how to support a handheld, and I will sell my PSP for….I don’t know, an Etch-a-Sketch.
- The Missing Games (RPG)- There were definately some games that from all reports were absent from TGS this year. I know that at every event like this there are always games that get forgotten or just left out entirely but still. Where was footage or news of Last Rebellion, the PS3 exclusive RPG from Nippon Ichi? Why was there no surprise announcement for Legend of the Dragoon 2 or Suikoden 6? Why has gameplay footage not been shown for Final Fantasy Versus XIII or for that matter why was more gameplay footage not shown of XIV? Going into TGS a lot of people expect to have their RPG desires fed by many great announcements but they did not seem to be there this year.
