There are many types of vehicles to choose from as well, such as buggies, cars, motorcycles, four wheelers, and semi trucks, although the selection may be limited depending on the current track. Still, there should be enough variety to keep players happy on all tracks.
Progressing through Festival mode will level up the player’s profile and unlock new races and rewards such as vehicles and vehicle accessories like bumpers, paint, suspensions, and exhausts. Vehicle customization settings can be also saved so that they don’t have to be set every time that vehicle is chosen for a race.
The level designs are close to perfect, and have accomodations for all vehicle types. Typically, lighter vehicles should go on the higher paths, while the heavier vehicles stick to the lower paths. Of course, the choice is up to the user in the end, so the big semi-truck can go up on that ramp, but it’s more likely to wreck than a motorcyle or a four wheeler.
All in all, Motorstorm:Arctic Edge is a great game for the PlayStation 2, and a fun game period. It captures everything that has made the series what it is today. While it may not have the jaw dropping graphics that PlayStation 3 owners have grown used to, it holds its own on the PlayStation 2. Definitely worthy of an addition to any gamer’s library, especially fans of the series.
