PS3 Review – Def Jam: Icon

One of the main draws to the title is without a doubt the Build a Label mode. This is essentially the career mode of the title. This takes you and your created character on a wild ride as you go through the steps to create your music label from the ground up. The experience is great. You can control everything to get your artists to pump out singles that can be added as your own songs to use within fights. The story is over the top as usual within Def Jam titles, and a fun experience overall.

Besides the Build a Label mode there are versus and online modes. The versus mode is a great way to just pick up the game and fight against the computer or a friend on the same system. The online mode doesn’t do anything special; it simply connects you to other players through the PlayStation Network. This aspect of the game could definitely offer more to the users.

Overall, the game is average. It can be frustrating at times because of all the changes to pretty much everything that fans of the series have become used to, particularly the controls. On the positive side, however, the game is beautiful, and the career mode is a lot of fun, both within the fights and outside of the fights.

PlayStation LifeStyle’s Final Score

Great graphics that have a gritty, realistic look to them

Controls can be frustrating at times

Longtime fans of the series may not like the changes
