The game gives you a lot of tactical choice, as well. You have full control of your squad mates, including telling them where to go, when to stop, and what to attack. It is a lot of fun to send them in for a diversion while you slip in from another area to take out more enemies. There are many possibilities to choose from.
Operation Flashpoint’s multiplayer is a blast. It has a lot of the elements that you have come to like in many shooters, and while it doesn’t do anything to revolutionize the genre, it doesn’t do anything wrong. The multiplayer impressively adheres to the single player campaign’s realism and map size.
When online, the numbers aren’t that high though. It is only 4 vs. 4. Each of 8 players has 3 A.I. squadmates that they control during the match, for a maximum total of 24 characters on screen at once, but only 8 of them are actual human players. Additionally, there are class choices to make before your character spawns within the multiplayer matches.
Besides just the normal multiplayer matches, there are also co-op features as well. Up to 4 people can play the game at once, including yourself. The additional characters will take the place of the squadmates that you typically have within a single player session.
Graphically, the game is pretty impressive when you take into account the sheer size of the maps, along with all of the things going on at once. It’s only natural that a shooter with a smaller map and less going on will look better. But seeing as how this game focuses on realism and size, the graphics do take a hit.
All in all, this is probably one of the most realistic shooting titles that has been released on the PlayStation. The level of detail that has been put into the game by Codemasters is certainly impressive. The sad thing is that this game has been overshadowed by several other shooters. This game is worth a look by any shooting fan. While it is not perfect, it is a lot of fun and a great experience overall.
