PS3 Review – Dynasty Warriors: StrikeForce

Not exactly. If you played a Dynasty Warriors game before, then guess what? Things haven’t changed. Sure, you now have the power of the ‘Fury’, which transforms you into a ‘Super Saiyan’ version of your character which can kill enemies like flies for a limited time and you can have 3 other NPC officers (Which also level-up) help you dish out the pain…but the problem is you still kill a million boring, generic enemies, over and over and over. On the subject of enemies, there’s also flying enemies that look like a glitch rather than flying. Mystical wall boxes that shoot energy at you! Or how about..the almighty tiger pits!?! I saved the best for last…giant stone statue demons/animals that take forever to kill. Have fun tapping the square to the point of exhaustion,  trying to bring down one of those big daddies.

Heck, even the camera system can be your enemy at times. The lock-on system begins to go crazy when too many enemies clutter the screen and don’t you dare lock-on a flying enemy, because you will never see them as the camera twirls about.

The single player mode just isn’t as fun as it was, ya know, 25 releases ago on the PS2. Sure, the first couple of hours of stomping ancient Chinese minion’s ass is fun, but soon, things begin to sour. The first side mission that I partook in I killed 400 enemies within the first five-minutes of the mission. All I had to do was just tap the square button continuously. Maybe a few triangle taps thrown in here and there. You can charge your strong attack (triangle) although it rarely works seeing as how you are continually surrounded by generic enemies all the time. Ugh.

As you advance further into the game, nothing ever changes. You still do the same process: go to a bland environment, fight an army of  baddies, kill a certain General or find an item. Boom. Mission over. Receive your XP and credits. Most missions you go on can be beat in just about 5-minutes minimum and 8-minutes maximum.
