Nobuo Uematsu Gets Candid For North American Fans

If gamers could put together one major list containing the most respected individuals in the gaming industry, there is no doubt that this fine gentleman would make an appearance on said list. That gentleman I’m talking about is, of course, Nobuo Uematsu, the mastermind behind the music for countless Final Fantasy titles as well as several other games, movies and side-projects.

This past week at Anime Boston, Mr. Uematsu participated in a Q&A session for many of his fans, college students, and aspiring composers alike. Original Gamer managed to snag some awesome, crystal clear footage of the event. Many great questions were asked, with several of them standing out from the rest. So we thought we would share a few of the more interesting questions answered by the gaming music legend.

Sure enough, the fans didn’t disappoint when it came to some really great questions. One attendee asked Mr. Uematsu which Final Fantasy game he enjoyed composing for the most, to which he replied:

So really you know I’ve got a lot of memories, like really important memories of all of them. But if I had to pick one… VI.

Upon hearing this, the crowd erupted with cheering, as many still debate to this day whether Final Fantasy VI or Final Fantasy VII was the best in the series. Uematsu later confirmed his love for the game after admitting that Final Fantasy VI was his favorite when it came to game play as well.

When another fan asked what Uematsu’s favorite character theme was, his reply was short and sweet:

The song for Aeris.

One moment that really got the crowd laughing was Uemtasu’s response to one fan’s question asking where Uematsu gets his inspiration from when composing music for a game, to which he replied:

Um… well… there isn’t really much of an inspiration except for maybe my dead life.

This was truly an awesome event, and I highly suggest you check out the full-video of the Q&A session, as this is a must-see for general music and Final Fantasy fans alike.

I’ll leave you with one last quote from Nobuo Uematsu that really did convey a profound message, and it’s this:

Music equals peace. Make music, not war.
