PlayStation Move hopes to capture an audience that the PlayStation 3 has yet to tap into, the casual gamers who’ve flocked to the Nintendo Wii in droves. Given the success that the Nintendo Wii has garnered it is in the best interest of console manufacturers to keep the high demand for casual games in mind for future developments. The upcoming PlayStation Move in particular will be going head-to-head with both the Nintendo Wii and Project Natal on the Xbox 360. That’s some stiff competition for Sony’s motion controller, so what does Sony think about it’s competitors? Shuhei Yoshida gives his opinion on the subject of Move’s competition.
Shuhei Yoshida, President of SCE Worldwide Studios, recently gave his thoughts in an issue of Edge Magazine regarding the competition that PlayStation Move will face. In the interview with Yoshida, he had this to say:
“Well, we don’t know about Natal yet, so all we can say from watching in a general sense how it plays is that we’ve been familiar with the controller-less system since the days of the EyeToy.
That’s very accessible, so a two-year-old to an 80-year-old lady can play games. But we also know the limitations of making games without a controller. So I’m very curious as to how Microsoft will solve that issue.”
Yoshida added:
“Compared to Wii and Wii MotionPlus, the biggest advantage is precision, not only movement but 3D spatial recognition and orientation. We can incorporate very subtle movement into games.
That’s not possible with the Wii system.”
Given how different the three motion controllers are, do you feel that there is enough room in the market for PlayStation Move, Project Natal, and the Nintendo Wii? Which one interests you the most?
