The famous Hironobu Sakaguchi has been quite possibly one of the most important game developers for the past two decades. With experience as the director of titles such as Final Fantasy V and producer of Final Fantasy VII, Parasite Eve and Xenogears, his resume is not only well-decorated but full of some of the best RPGs known to man. Unfortunately, according to a recent report Sakaguchi is strongly considering retirement soon.
As reported by 1UP, Hironobu Sakaguchi is considering retirement after his current project. His current project in development is an exclusive on the Nintendo Wii titled The Last Story, which seems like more than just coincidence.
Sakaguchi has played a huge role in several of my favorite games including Final Fantasy Tactics and has been a huge reason behind Square’s success from the late 1980’s until the release of Final Fantasy X. It’s disappointing that his last title might be a Wii exclusive, and his contributions will be sorely missed by the gaming industry. Here’s to hoping he’s willing to work on a Final Fantasy VII remake for the PS3 before retirement.
