The past few years have been a dream come true for fighting fans with memorable games like Street Fighter IV and BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger entertaining millions, and upcoming releases such as Marvel vs. Capcom 3 still in the pipeline. However, the show isn’t over as a new fighter is preparing to enter the ring. Comic Con has now become the stage for one of the most surprising announcements for the fighting genre in years.
Both Capcom and Namco have partnered to create a new fighter titled Street Fighter X Tekken. Yoshinori Ono and Katsuhiro Harada took the stage at Comic Con today as thousands of fans cheered, and Ono said the following:
“This is history we’re making. Two fighting games that have rivalled each other are finally standing on the same stage. This isn’t just a showdown between Tekken and Street Fighter, but a decisive battle for Capcom and Namco Bandai Games. So I’m going to give it my all.”
Street Fighter X Tekken is being designed on Street Fighter IV’s robust engine featuring the proven 2D-fighting formula that fans have been enjoying accompanied by some new exciting gameplay to revitalize the genre. A Tag Team mode will be included which features several options to create a high-level of cooperative play with combo abilities and more.
A debut trailer accompanied the announcement which can be seen below:
