Splash Damage Explains Why Brink was Delayed

When Splash Damage announced that their highly anticipated upcoming shooter, Brink, would be pushed back to 2011, many gamers were, understandably, dismayed and frustrated. Many wondered if something had gone wrong with production, and almost instantly questions were raised regarding the game’s final quality. However, in a recent interview, the CEO of Splash Damage reassured restless gamers about why his studio decided to delay the game, and why it can only be a good thing.

Speaking to VG247 was CEO Paul Wedgwood. Asked why his studio decided to push back the game’s release, Wedgwood cited the team needed additional time for “balancing and polishing”.

“We’re not adding any additional things to it. Essentially, we’re gonna spend longer in the Beta phase. Because it’s a really ambitious game, and now that people can see what we’ve done with weapons – the number of weapons, the number of weapon modifications, the number of abilities, the number of items and gadgets – they can see the interrelations between those many components sets up some very specific balancing challenges.

Furthermore, Wedgwood hopes Brink will have ‘legs’ in its lifetime.

“And for Brink, we want to make sure people enjoy playing months after they’ve started playing – or years after they’ve started playing! I think in order for us to achieve that well, we want to have the best possible period of balancing and polishing.”

We will give Splash Damage all the time in the world to ensure that Brink is as good as possible. As of now, the game looks great. Hopefully the fine folks over at Splash Damage will be able to get all the kinks out of the game, before the release in early 2011.
