When EA Sports made their debut in PlayStation Home last year, they were received with enormous fanfare and support, and provided Home users with their first taste of high-quality community driven games like Texas Hold Em’ poker, Mini Golf, and RC Racing, along with a pretty sweet night club, all free of charge. However, things are looking rather uncertain for the acclaimed developer after news that several major EA contributions are being removed from Home, with the developers partnership with the online community now being called into question.
The news came as Home Community Specialist Glasswalls announced that Home would be undergoing routine maintenance earlier today, along with word that the new Dolphy Space and, long-time favorite, EA Sports Complex would be taken offline for updates, with the Dolphy Space returning and the EA Sports Complex being tagged as “offline until further notice”. This has many wondering if EA Sports, even more-so EA, may be pulling out of Home altogether.
Just last week, it was announced that all EA-developed NFL jerseys had been removed from Home (just as the NFL season was starting), further adding to the speculation. Also, let’s not forget that Texas Hold Em’ Poker tables recently went on sale in the Home Mall, which may have caused Sony to look at EA’s space as a threat to overall sales, thus prompting the removal.
