With Halo: Reach finally releasing to a very grateful public, it’s time for Bungie to end one chapter of their story and start a new one. Although we don’t know anything about it, the good news is their next game is officially in development.
Bungie, having worked on the Halo franchise for nearly nine years, are finally ready to work on a new game. While Activision will be publishing the new title, the studio will retain all intellectual property rights and will, essentially, stay an independent studio. Bungie’s communications manager Brian Jarrard said that team would rather develop their game from scratch instead of using existing technology.
I think it goes hand-in-hand with our independent spirit. Just like we don’t want to develop a game off someone else’s IP, we want to push our own technology in the same way. That’s going to be our position for the foreseeable future. [The new engine is] actually in development, so I would say it’s in a stage where, technically we’re still at the end of a pre-production mode. But now that Reach is done the full weight of our team is rolling into the project. Real work is underway.
Even as a PlayStation-centric website, I don’t think anyone here would doubt the impact the Halo upon the entire history of gaming. Now, not only moving multiplatform but to a brand new intellectual property, I’d be hard-pressed to find someone who isn’t excited about this title. Stay tuned to PlayStation LifeStyle for news on Bungie’s mysterious new title. (Bet you never thought you’d see that!)
