Sony’s PlayStation Portable is nearing its 6th birthday in Japan. Despite the aging handheld nearing the end of its lifecycle, it very well could be on track to have its best year ever.
The PSP has gone head-to-head for several weeks on end with the Nintendo DS. And now, even with the launch of the Nintendo’s 3DS looming, CEO of Famitsu publisher Enterbrain, Hirokazu Hamamura, believes the PSP still has plenty of fight left in it, even going as far to say:
“This year will be the PSP’s biggest year.”
Hamamure mentioned a number of blockbuster titles including Lord of Arcana, God Eater Burst, Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity, Black Panther Yakuza New Chapter Tactics Ogre and The 3rd Birthday. However, he believed Monster Hunter Portable 3rd is what will sell the most for the PSP with Hamamura stating it could sell up to 5 million units.
“Selling five million units is not a dream.”
Hamamura also continued to say the “The PSP will expand its market” for the end of the year.
