When Sony announced their PlayView technology – which is able to quickly scale an image with more than 1 billion pixels with absolutely no delay – the industry understood the implications. What wasn’t clear was how Sony planned to leverage this technology for the benefit of the gaming populous. Those questions were answered with the release of something completely new coming to the PSN in Japan.Sony will be releasing a strategy guide for Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G Monster Data Chishikisho, that turns strategy guides on their proverbial axis. The new guide is part of the ‘PlayView for Games’ service which allows for, not only smooth zoom and search capabilities, but aims to be a true interactive experience by including support for video, audio, and web-based content.
The challenge will be in the delivery. As is stands, the content isn’t dynamically integrated into the game thereby allowing you to call it up at will, convenient if you’re stuck at a specific point in a game. Further, it’s only available on the PS3 and not the PSP.
With magazines becoming interactive by companies like Screenpaper Media on the web, and Popular Science on the iPad it makes sense for Sony to follow suit on the PS3. The service also plans to offer art books, which could be a huge selling point to collector’s if things are implemented well.
No word yet if or when we can expect to see this on US or EU shores.
