The Call of Duty series has been shrouded in controversy, from the airport mission where you play as a terrorist in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, to misleading advertisements. With such a wide audience, every Call of Duty has been looked at under a microscope, and the next iteration coming next week is no different. If you’re looking for the full experience with Call of Duty: Black Ops, avoid the Japanese version at all costs.
Square Enix has announced that the Japanese version of Call of Duty: Black Ops will be receiving a censorship slap. For one, all swastikas found in the Nazi Zombie mode of the title will be replaced with the less-contentious iron cross. In addition, a brutal interrogation scene found in the story mode has been removed to comply with the CERO ratings board.
Even if you don’t live in Japan, isn’t this censorship troubling? How do you feel about these changes? Post your response in the comments below.
