Sony Claims Over 50 Titles Are Being Prepped for 3D

Stereoscopic 3D is the latest technology to enter the home entertainment sector. As with any budding technology, there needs to be strong industry support in order for it to succeed. According to Sony, that is exactly the case.

In a recent interview with Develop, Mick Hocking, studio Director for SCEE, revealed that “more than fifty titles [are] currently being converted into 3D, and this number is growing fast.” This number includes at least 20 titles being developed internally by Sony, and some of the titles being developed “are massive names.” Mr. Hocking elaborated further on this:

That’s a really, really good sign that the industry is behind our unique message that 3D is a key element in the future of home consoles.

He attributes this interest partly in Sony’s own work in pushing the industry to embrace stereoscopic 3D, stating that Sony is “actively talking to developers and publishers” and “also offering training to help them get up to speed with 3D.” So if Sony has their way, soon games with 3D support will become the norm rather than the exception.
