New Engine Powering Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Recently, a new Bethesda title was unveiled at the VGAs. Since then, many have begun to put the new Elder Scrolls game through the speculation mill and have churned out a thoughts about the technology that will power it. So far, we know that there will be dragons based on the trailer, but that’s not the only new thing under the hood for Skyrim.

On Bethesda’s Twitter page, they’ve let on that they are aware of some of those speculations, especially about some fears about the dated gaming engine used in Oblivion and Fallout. Anyone sharing those fears can put them to rest.

I’ll admit that I was a bit skeptical when the game was announced, especially since Fallout: New Vegas saw little improvement to the dated gaming engine. Oblivion definitely looked spectacular at the time when it was released, but compared to level of other open-world titles that are out now, I can agree that it’s time to saddle up some new tech to power the next Elder Scrolls. We’ll definitely be keeping tabs on Bethesda and be looking out for any game footage once we get our hands on it.
