While Namco Bandai’s Tales franchise has been a staple RPG in the Japanese market, the series has only received limited success outside of its native territory. So with a new title announcement, what are the chances it’ll make it out of Japan?
The first PS3 exclusive in the franchise, Tales of Xillia marks the Tales 15th anniversary and is an “RPG of steadfast conviction”. While little is known about the game, it’s definitely more than just “New Tales“. The game follows the exploits of Shuto Matis, a medical student, and Mira, a woman able to control the four elements of earth, wind, fire, and water. That’s about it, game wise. The two directors of the game are Asana Inoki, director of Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, and Naoto Miyadera, director of Symphonia and Abyss.
Unfortunately, there is only a slim chance that Xillia will make it past the borders of the Far East. Sales haven’t been so good for the Tales games as of late, so Namco Bandai may have just given up. Check out the game’s official website, enjoy some of the first images, and watch the trailer below.
Meanwhile NB feel like they should just give us wonderful games like Splatterhouse. Awesome.
