Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, provided a few clues on two topics that the web has been in a frenzy over: The PSP2 and the PSP Phone.
In a recent interview, Hirai-san provided some details on the direction Sony may be headed in, without giving too much away, and he mentioned that Sony has a far different approach to gaming than the models that exist in the Apple and Android Market places. When talking about how Sony views the handheld arena he stated:
The games being played on Android and Apple platforms are fundamentally different from the world of immersive games that Sony Computer Entertainment, and PlayStation, aims for.
In talking about the next product lines that could very well consist of a PSP2 and a PSP Phone, Hirai-san addressed the need to have the product lines be separate and distinct:
We don’t want gamers to be asking, what’s the difference between that and a PSP[?]
Hirai-san added that it’s not about simply adding to the market another device with the PlayStation logo, but that it would need to be some that “…that keeps the PlayStation’s strengths intact.”
