Although Demon’s Souls and Valkyria Chronicles became instant classics when they graced the PlayStation 3 with their presence, this generation has been lackluster when it comes to RPGs. When compared to the harvest of engrossing RPGs found on the PS1 and PS2 platforms, the PS3 looks like it could use a hand. Thankfully, to help aid the PS3 in pulling together some role-playing love, Square Enix is planning to release a handful of classics on the PlayStation Store.
A quick trip to ESRB’s website reveals that Square Enix has a powerful line-up of RPG classics heading to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable. Some of the special titles include Arc the Lad III, Legend of Mana, Vagrant Story, and Xenogears. Ridge Racer Type 4 is listed as well, so there’s something for RPG and racing fans alike.
The PlayStation Store is quickly becoming a hub for some of the best games in video game history, and these additions should make a noteworthy impact. While none of these titles have officially been declared for release, and we don’t have a release date, we should be expecting to see their release sometime in early 2011.
