Sony Announces PlayStation Network Gamers’ Choice Awards 2011

For the first time ever, Sony is giving PlayStation Network users the ability to vote on the very best that the network has to offer in the first annual PlayStation Network Gamers’ Choice Awards.

If you were under the delusion that that little voting box under content on the PSN was for nothing, you were dead wrong. It turns out that aside from informing other PSN users what games rocked and which games sucked, you’ve also gone ahead and nominated the top contenders in this year’s PlayStation Network Gamers’ Choice Awards, a community event designed to single out the best titles that the PlayStation Network has to offer. Here are the categories, along with their respective nominees:

  • Best PS3 Downloadable Game: Castle Crashers, Costume Quest™, Death Spank, PAC-MAN® Championship Edition DX, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World™: The Game
  • Best PSP Downloadable Game:God of War®: Ghost of Sparta,Lunar Silver Star Harmony, Phantasy Star™Portable 2, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Valkyria Chronicles II
  • Best PS3/PSP MINI: A Space Shooter for Two Bucks, Age of Zombies™, Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess, Vector TD, Young Thor
  • Best PlayStation Network Exclusive Game: Dead Nation, Hustle Kings, Joe Danger, Sam & Max Ep. 1, Soldner-X2

Sony has even gone ahead and thrown a twist in the voting process. In order to vote for your favorite titles, you need not deal with a mere button press, but a full-on download. That’s right, in order to vote, you’ll need to download the corresponding game’s theme on your PS3, and you’ve officially submitted your ballot. Quite a neat way to vote, if I do say so myself.

You have every reason to get involved in the action, as the winning titles will receive a 30% discount in the PlayStation Store, while PlayStation Plus subscribers will benefit even more, with a massive 50% discount on said titles. Voting begins on February 22nd, and will run through March 1st, so you’ve got plenty of time to decide.

If you’re one of the few who may not have been able to get your hands on these titles, PlayStation LifeStyle has provided a review for just about every one of them, so be sure to check out our reviews section for a full-recap of 2010’s greatest PSN titles.
