The Gundam franchise has been as popular a subject of video games as it has been anime, especially in recent years. Now, Gundam Memories is ready to strike Japanese PSPs on June 23.
The full Japanese title is Gundam Memories: Tatakai no Kioku, the last part being Japanese for “Memories of Battle.” Why they use English “meh-moh-rees” in the first part and the Japanese in the second is just another baffling example of the use of foreign languages in Japanese marketing. Described as a “tactical change action game,” the game probably draws its title from the fact that fans can relive the stories of three different Mobile Suit: Gundam movies, specifically Gundam Unicorn, Gundam SEED Destiny, and Gundam 00: Awakening the Trailblazer. This will apparently be the first time for latter story to make a video game appearance.
Two game modes will be available: “Situation Mode” and “Mission Mode.” Missions become available somewhat randomly, from a pool of possible ones of the same rank. The player can buy them in order to take them on. Situation Mode seems more focused on storytelling.
The game gets its unique genre labeling due to the developers wanting to emphasize the need to strategy. Choosing which three mobile suits to bring into combat and which approach to use is critical. Two types of gameplan have been detailed recently the “shooting” type and “speed” type. Different suits handle different approaches better than others. Decide well and enjoy these 35 screenshots:
Gundam Memories: Memories of Battle has been rated A (all ages) and will arrive in Japanese stores on Thursday, June 23. No outside release plans have been announced, but of course that may change at any time.
