Finally a 3DS game makes a big impact on the Japanese sales charts, but that’s not saying much this week, because it still lost out to a re-release of a regular DS game that’s already been on for six weeks. Sony goes on to stick eight PlayStation games in the top 10 sellers.
Indeed, while making the top 10 is a big deal and these games’ respective developers/publishers should be happy, it all kinda comes with an *unwritten asterisk, because everyone already spent their game money during Golden Week. Dipping as they may be, here are the top 10:
01. Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 – Professional (DS)
02. Steel Diver (3DS)
03. The Reminiscence of Haruhi Suzumiya (PS3)
04. The Reminiscence of Haruhi Suzumiya (PSP)
05. Patapon 3 (PSP)
06. Pro Baseball Spirits 2011 (PSP)
07. Planetarian: Tohoku Earthquake Charity Edition (PSP)
08. Final Promise Story (PSP)
09. Pro Baseball Spirits 2011 (PS3)
10. Doki Doki Suikoden (PSP)
Don’t worry about seeing the word “Suikoden” up there. You’re not missing anything, as it’s not from the Konami RPG series that you’re probably thinking of. Rather, it’s a love adventure about, I don’t know, making love to cartoons and stuff.
Speaking of which, Platetarian‘s special charity re-release version managed to chart, which is nice, since all the profit goes toward rebuilding the massive amounts of tsunami-wrecked Northeast Japan.
In games seeing release on both PSP and PS3, Pro Baseball Spirits has consistently sold better in handheld form, while adventure fans are seeming to favor the big console for The Reminiscence of Haruhi Suzumiya.
* = Except when I write the asterisk.
