Sony’s 3D Visor will be Coming to Japanese Retailers this November

Remember that futuristic looking 3D headset that Sony showed off earlier this year? Well it looks like consumers interested in this tech will actually be able to pick one up for themselves as early as this fall.

The 3D headset looks a lot like a visor that is pulled over your eyes (Virtual Boy anyone?) and comes packed with two 1280×720 0.7-inch OLED panels that are mounted in front of each eye. Sony says that this will recreate the sense of viewing a 750-inch screen from 20 meters away. As icing on the cake, the visor comes built in with 5.1 surround sound capable headphones.

The official name of the 3D headset is ‘HMZ- T1’ and will set gamers back 60,000 yen ($784/£481). The product is set to launch on November 11th in Japan, though no word was given as to when (if ever) gamers will see this tech outside the country’s borders.

Hiroshi Yoshioka, executive deputy president at Sony praised the device back in January, stating:

As a big gamer myself, I couldn’t be excited more than when I first played Gran Turismo 5 with this head-mounted display because nobody, not even my wife, could interrupt me so that I could get a higher score.

It is also worth mentioning that this device can be hooked up to a television via HDMI, allowing you to take off the visor and continue the experience on an actual big screen.
