If ever there was a series that deserves to sell well, it would be the Persona series. Persona 3 and 4 for the PlayStation 2 were two of the best RPGs to release at the time and the rest have been no slouch. Atlus’ parent company, Index, has announced in an investor meeting, that the series has sold over 1.65 million copies in Japan alone.
The series is 6 games deep at the moment and is getting bigger, with the additions of Persona 4: The Golden for the PlayStation Vita and Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayanoka Arena for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Arcade come 2012. There is even the animation of Persona 4, which you can watch in the US now on services like Hulu. The greatest news to all of this, is that if you look at the graph presented below, you will see that with every release in the series, sales in Japan have gone up, showing how popular the games are becoming.
It would be nice to see what these sales look like if you included both North America and Europe, as the game seem to sell good no matter where they are released. Hopefully these continued sales mean a Persona 5 on the PlayStation 3 in the near future.
