As expected, Dark Souls released in September to acclaim. Many felt it improved upon its predecessor, Demon’s Souls, in nearly every way imaginable, from more content, to additional variety in both character development and environments. With that said, the multiplayer experience has been a headache for many, and the issues have continued months after release. But with time comes solutions, and From Software are adamant about polishing the community experience as soon as possible.
After plenty of fan feedback, Namco Bandai Games Community Manager Rich Bantegui posted the comment below on his Twitter account:
We’re adjusting a lot of it to make the MP experience better.
After playing the game for well over 20 hours, I’ve never been able to find summoning stones despite being in humanity form and trying several locations, and I’m not the only one. Turning to the co-operative option when faced with some of the game’s many rigorous challenges is a major selling point of the title, so its inconsistency has been a noticeable blemish in an otherwise memorable game. What’s most concerning is that From Software has acknowledged that invasions and summoning follow a different set of rules than Demon’s Souls, and in my opinion the new rules are significantly worse. It was never intended that players could pair with a partner of their choice in the matchmaking of Demon’s Souls, but being able to work the system made for some extremely fun dungeon crawls. Now that’s impossible to do, and in the process of restricting it, From Software have crippled the system.
