Rumor: Army of Two Devs Working on “Army of Four”

Rumors are circulating that the next game in the Army of Two franchise will be titled “Army of Four”. The first details surrounding the project allegedly broke this morning.

The game is under development at EA’s Montreal Studio and will be co-developed by members of DICE, the developer behind the phenomenal Battlefield 3, according to Kotaku. As with almost every rumor surrounding EA lately, the buzz is that Army of Four will utilize the Frostbite 2 engine. As the title of the game implies four player co-op will be featured prominently.

The last entry in the Army of Two franchise, 40th day, was released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 back in January 2010. The series is known for its upgradable weapons and the ability to exchange parts and modifications between guns. The original also helped pioneer the Aggro System, where enemies will target specific players depending on a number of conditions.

Do you think bringing four player co-op to the Army of Two franchise is a good idea? Games like Gears of War 3 and Halo: Reach have featured online 4 player co-op for some time. Uncharted 3 has limited 3 player co-op, so there is some new ground to be explored considering the first two examples are exclusive to the Xbox 360.
