The internet has been all over the PlayStation Vita’s slight stumble out of the gate, as the machine came in fifth place on the hardware charts during its second week in stores. For the week of December 26th to January 1st, well, at least it outsold the Wii.

Consoles having slow starts seems to be the norm this generation, aside from perhaps the budget-made Wii. The 360 had a great opening in terms of sales, but a rush to market resulted in a lot of dead systems early on. The PS3 was the butt of jokes due to its sales and software lineup for a whole year or two, the PSP suffered an early death (in the West), and even just this year, the 3DS was the subject of many doom and gloom articles. How “doomed” is the 3DS now? Let’s take a look at the software charts.

The right software dropping at the right time can and will turn any console’s ship around. The 3DS is brand new proof of it, and the Vita stands as good a chance as any system of making a similar move.
