The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences has announced its nominees for the 15th annual Interactive Achievement Awards. It is not shocking to learn that all eyes will be on Uncharted 3, which secured 12 nominations across several different categories. It was nominated for Game of the Year as well as Adventure Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Connectivity, Outstanding Achievement in Animation and many others.
While Uncharted may be poised to sweep the awards, it wasn’t the only Sony franchise on the list. Other standouts include Infamous 2’s nod for Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition and LittleBigPlanet 2 ‘s nomination for both Outstanding Achievement in Online Game Play and Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition. Killzone 3 didn’t make the cut in any category; some fans might have expected it to be considered for Outstanding In Online Game Play, due to its unique Warfare mode.
The fourth quarter of 2011 had a lot of AAA titles released in a short amount of time. Some of the tightest races may come from both the Outstanding Achievement in Visual Engineering and Outstanding Achievement in Connectivity categories. With titles like Batman Arkham City, Uncharted and L.A Noir in the running for Visual Engineering and games like Battlefield 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and LittleBigPlanet 2 in running for Outstanding Achievement in Connectivity the winner is anyone’s guess.
The biggest event of the night will arguably go to whoever wins the coveted Game of the Year award. This year has a lot of great games in the running, many of the nominees appeared were released on the PlayStation 3. The five GOTY Nominees are: Batman Arkham City, Portal 2, The Elder Scroll’s Sky, Zela: Skyward Sword and Uncharted 3.
