Sony Lowers Financials to Compensate for Poor Vita Performance

It looks like Sony was a bit overambitious in their sales predictions, especially for the Vita, as the company has had to negatively adjust their financial forecast.

According to a report from Siliconera, Sony initially projected a total of 16 million sales worldwide for the PlayStation Vita and PSP by the end of fiscal 2013. The company expected the Vita would make up 10 million with the PSP comprising the remaining 6 million units. By August, Sony had to drop the number down to 12 million due to slow sales.

Now, Sony has had to lower their forecast again as their portable consoles continue to underperform. The projection is now at 10 million units. For their sake let’s hope that’s the last time they need to revise their projections.

On a more positive note, their sales forecast for home consoles remains unchanged with an expected 16 million in sales between the PS2 and PS3. Here’s to hoping the holiday season brings Sony plenty of success. After all, this marks the first Christmas for the PlayStation Vita in the west.
