Usually when a game is re-released, all of the original features are bundled with additional downloadable content and the like to offer gamers an increased value over the original release they may have passed on. Metal Gear Solid 4‘s 25th anniversary edition may come with a poster, and trophies, but otherwise seems to offer less than the original offering due to the exclusion of Metal Gear Online – MGS4’s online mode, which was completely patched out of the game earlier this year.
If you’re to look anywhere across your Metal Gear Solid 4 25th Anniversary Edition purchase, you won’t see the slightest mention of multiplayer; whether you look at the game’s menus, or even the back of the box which details the title as a singleplayer only affair.
It’s amazing to think that aside from the obligatory “Greatest Hits” edition relabeling – this is the first time Metal Gear Solid 4 is receiving a proper re-release since the title’s original debut 4 years ago, despite being a highly recognized Game of the Year contender.
But, regardless – it’s interesting to see Metal Gear Solid 4 finally re-release with less features than the initial outing. Do you feel that Konami should have kept Metal Gear Online‘s servers up for the release of MGS4‘s anniversary edition, or is leaving no evidence of the horrid Konami ID system for the best?
