With Koch Media acquiring the rights to the Metro and Saints Row franchises during the THQ auction, it was left unclear when we might see the next iterations in each of those series’. Deep Silver said last month that it would “take some time to complete the transition for Volition, Saints Row and Metro“, which then led up to the Metro: Last Light pre-order disappearing from the PSN.
In an interview with GI.biz, Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media, told them that he has “no doubt” we’d see Metro: Last Light and the next Saints Row launching this year, basically re-assuring fans that both are still on the same release track as THQ had planned.
With the design director of Saints Row 1 tweeting to IGN that “the word around the campfire is SR4 is shipping on current gen consoles in late August,” it may even mean we’ll see Saints Row 4 getting the drop on Grand Theft Auto V, which launches on September 17th. Though Deep Silver responded to that by saying that they are “still working on [timing] with Volition” and that they haven’t “announced platforms yet,” it would be pretty interesting to see the two essentially go head-to-head.
Also in that interview, Klemens talked about the Xbox 360 exclusive Dead Island: Riptide Collector’s Edition (you know, the one with the severed female torso), basically saying that it will be forgotten about soon and they didn’t do it for hype:
Well, you can’t get every bet right. Sometimes you just have to admit to yourself and your community that it wasn’t appropriate. Overall, Riptide has a very strong tailwind going into the launch, and I think the Collectors Edition will probably be soon forgotten. It’s something that the media has reported with a lot of interest, but I think that in the grand scheme of things it’s not so important.
And, y’know, we’ll probably make mistakes in the future as well. It’s not something we’re immune to. Looking at what we’ve seen in response on the forums and around the internet, many people also see it in a more balanced way, and recommend that if some people don’t want to buy something they just shouldn’t buy it.
I can tell you one thing: it was not manufactured. We aren’t looking for that type of publicity.
