It’s yet another month of drops as the US video game retail sales declined 15% to $593.3 million. This can be attributed to a 14% fall for software to $313.8 million and hardware nose-diving 30% to $142 million.
While exact hardware numbers weren’t revealed for PlayStation 3 or the PlayStation Vita, the 3DS managed to finish first with 225,000 sold, with the Xbox 360 in second at 140,000 sold. So, we can guess that the PS3 and PS Vita sold somewhere between 0 and 139,999 units each during June 2013.
As for The Last of Us, it managed to fend off Animal Crossing: New Leaf and finish first among all video games during the month. The Last of Us did so well that it had the second highest first month sales of a PS3 1st party game, behind only God of War 3 in March of 2010. Also, since the NPD began tracking numbers in 1995, The Last of Us is the third highest game to launch during June.
