Last we heard about Prey 2, a report surfaced that the game had once been in development at Obsidian, but had since moved on to Arkane Studios (Dishonored) and was targeting a 2016 release date.
Clearing up everything about Prey 2 is Pete Hines, Bethesda’s VP of Marketing and PR, who told RPS if Arkane truly is handling the Prey sequel:
No. All of that stuff, I have no idea where it came from. The Human Head Prey 2 thing is the Human Head Prey 2 thing. Arkane is over here, and they’re doing their thing, and that’s for them to work on. We’ll be ready to talk about what they’re working on when it gets closer to release.
Pete continued on about how Prey 2 “just wasn’t where it needed to be” and “we could ship it and put it in a box and be done with it, but it won’t meet anybody’s expectations.” Then, comparing it to another recently delayed Bethesda title, he added, “It’s kind of like [Wolfenstein: The New Order], which is getting delayed to next year because it’s showing promise, but it needs more time and polish to hit the quality bar we expect. Prey 2 is not the first time that we’ve moved something because of that. It’s gonna come down to quality.”
So, it looks like Human Head is still working on Prey 2 and we can expect it when it’s ready.
