You don’t have to worry about this affecting every single game in their library, but due to the weak Canadian dollar right now, EB Games has raised the prices of many of their pre-order titles by $5 (via GameDealsCanada).
What this means is that games originally priced at $29.99, $39.99, $59.99, etc. are now up for pre-order at $34.99, $44.99, $64.99, etc., as you can see below from some examples (you can see more on their website):
- Thief – $64.99
- Destiny – $64.99
- Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII – $64.99
- Watch Dogs – $64.99
- Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster – $44.99
- Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes – $34.99 (PS3/360), $44.99 (PS4/Xbox One)
- DanganRonpa: Trigger Happy Havoc – $44.99
It remains to be seen how long these prices will stay raised, so be aware of this hike if you plan on pre-ordering some games anytime soon.
Also, while other retailers like Future Shop, Best Buy, and Amazon have yet to raise their prices along with EB Games, someone with “insider info” did say Best Buy was going to do the same, but current pre-orders would be price protected. While it isn’t the most accurate source, this is something to be aware of if you’re looking to pre-order/buy any games coming out as the dollar is down.
So basically, if you don’t think the Canadian dollar will get stronger and are wanting to buy some games coming soon, get your pre-orders at retailers who still have them at their normal prices while you can.
