Thief Trophy Guide

Welcome to PlayStation LifeStyle’s trophy guide for Thief! This is a fairly simple yet time consuming Platinum. There are only 38 trophies in the game but there are a ton of collectibles to find. In addition to finding things, multiple playthroughs will be required to get this Plat. The A.I. in this game isn’t very good, but that can be used to your advantage when sneaking around on your Master difficulty play-through. As long as you’re in the shadows, you’re basically invisible. Just make sure to keep some distance from the guards if they are looking directly at you. It also seems like they have no peripheral vision, so stay crouched, quiet and in the dark and you’ll make it through this game pretty easily on Master difficulty. If you miss any trophies, don’t worry, there’s free roam after you’ve completed the game and all of the missions will be re-playable. The only missable trophy is More Heist Less Speed.

Spoiler Warning: There are spoilers in this guide. If you are trying to avoid spoilers, it’s recommended that you complete the game before reading any further.

Man of Steal – Platinum

– The True Master Thief.

Follow this guide!

Obsessive Compulsive – Bronze

– Steal all loot and collectibles in a single chapter.

Loot is all of the shiny objects that you pick up as you play through the game. Loot can be a fork, spoon, letter opener, flask etc. Anything that you pick up and are given gold for is considered loot. This trophy is easiest completed on the first mission. The mission itself is short and there are only 60 items to pick up. Press up  on the D-Pad and select Player Progression to check out how many you’ve collected during any mission.

Sleight of Hand – Bronze

– Pick 100 pockets in a single playthrough.

To pickpocket guards, you’ll have to sneak up on them and hold Square to steal their pouches. Not every guard will carry a pouch, so be on the lookout and steal from any guard that has one. You can view your progress of how many you’ve stolen by pressing up on the D-Pad and going in the Overall statistics page under Player Progression.

Quickly Pick a Lucky Lock – Bronze

– Pick a lock with masterful speed.

This can be done on any lock you find throughout the game. When you find a lock, save the game manually before picking it. After you’ve done that, press Square to pick the lock. Find where you’ll need to press R2 on each of the circles. When you know the L3 placement, reload your save and quickly pick the lock. If you fail, you can just reload your checkpoint until you get it.

Something to Prove – Gold

– Finish the game with a custom difficulty of 700 points or more.

You’ll need to select “Start A New Game” at the Main Menu and then select “Custom” for the difficulty setting. Next, you’ll be given a set of modifiers that you can turn on or off. Each one is assigned a set amount of points. You’ll have to turn on modifiers until you reach over 700 points. There are a few options here you can turn on that will make it so that you earn an additional 3 trophies upon completing this difficulty. Set the difficulty to “Master” for the Hard Times trophy. Turn on “No Kills Or Knockouts” for the Moral Victory trophy. Turn on “No Focus” for the Clear Headed trophy. Next, make sure to not enable “Chapter Saves Only”. With this off you’ll be able to save your game as you play. With the aforementioned modifiers turned on, select whatever other modifiers you’d like. Just make sure to get your total over 700 points.

Master difficulty is not that difficult at all. Enemies are a little more aware and you’ll take more damage. Stick to the shadows and stay crouched. The AI isn’t that smart, even on Master, so if you are in the shadows, you’re safe. Just stay directly out of their sight. Try to keep as many water arrows on you as possible. Shooting out torches will really help you get through the game. There are also many hidden passages or alternate routes in missions. So be on the look out for those as they will make some missions a lot easier by allowing you to bypass enemies. One other thing to do is save your game frequently as you are making your way through missions. This is basically like having as many checkpoints as you want and being able to use them when you want.

You’ll be required to knock a guard out during the prologue. This will not count against your no knockout run. As for the boss fight in chapter 7, there are 2 valves you’ll need to turn to open the door. After the 2 valves go to the door and pick the lock. Once the lock is picked, go out the door to finish the fight avoiding a kill of the boss.

Dark Archer – Bronze

– Complete 10 optional Thieving Challenges.

See the trophy Legend in Leather for more details.

Legend in Leather – Gold

– Complete 25 optional Thieving Challenges.

Thieving Challenges are optional objectives that can be completed during story and client missions. The objectives vary from mission to mission and will sometimes contradict each other, which will require you to play the missions multiple times. Press up on the D-Pad and go to the Statistics page under Player Progression to view how many you have completed and what you need to do to complete them.

Mint Condition – Bronze

– Finish 3 consecutive missions without taking damage.

This trophy isn’t too difficult at all. If you are patient and stay hidden in the shadows, it will be no problem. Stealthily take out enemies or just sneak past em. Make sure to save your game as you progress. If you take any damage, you can reload your latest save file.

Focus on the Tasks at Hand – Bronze

– Pick a pocket and a lock using the focus ability.

Press Triangle to enter focus mode. Enter focus mode just before you start to pick a lock and just before you pickpocket someone.

Moral Victory – Gold

– Finish the game without a single kill or knockout.

See the trophy Something to Prove for more details.

One Step Ahead – Bronze

– Disarm ten trap mechanisms.

In order to disarm traps you will need to buy the wire cutters from a vendor. There is a vendor in the same area you meet Basso. When you find a trap you’ll need to use Focus to highlight the wire leading from the trap to the control box. The wire will glow blue. When you reach the control box open it and cut the wires. You’ll definitely get this by progressing through the game and searching for collectibles.

Clear Headed – Silver

– Reach the final chapter without using the focus ability.

See the trophy Something to Prove for more details.

Hard Times – Silver

– Finish the game on Master difficulty.

See the trophy Something to Prove for more details.

Modesty Denied – Silver

– Score an epic 5,000,000 or more in a Challenge Map.

Challenge mode is available at the Main Menu. This is easiest earned on “House of Blossoms” and the game type “Chain Gang”. All you need to do is collect loot. Once you collect a piece of loot you’ll have 60 seconds to pick up more. Every piece of loot gained will restart the timer back to 60 seconds and increase your multiplier. Run through the level collecting all of the loot and take out any enemies you come across. Killing enemies will lower your score but you’ll earn more than enough points by collecting all of the loot that it won’t matter. Collecting everything should get you to around 2,300,000 to 2,600,00 points. When you have collected everything, head to the green glowing door to end the mission. The multiplier will get you over 5,000,000 points after the mission.

Child of the Shadows – Bronze

– Finish a single chapter without alerting anyone.

See the trophy Something to Prove for more details.

Hail of Glass – Bronze

– Shoot a bottle in mid-air with an arrow.

What you’ll need to do here is throw a bottle straight up into the air and shoot it. If you don’t have a bottle that can be found easily. They are quite common. You’ll want to do this in an outside area. You will only have about a second to shoot the bottle before it comes down. Make sure to save before doing this so that if you fail you can reload your save file.

  1. Equip your arrows.
  2. Equip the bottle.
  3. Manually save the game.
  4. Throw the bottle straight up into the air.
  5. As soon as the bottle is thrown, hold R2.
  6. When you have the shot lined up release R2 to shoot an arrow.

Health Hazard – Silver

– Kill or knockout 10 people using the environment.

There are a few ways you can kill someone using the environment in Thief. You can shoot explosive barrels with a Fire Arrow or Explosive Arrow, shoot oil slicks that are on the ground with a Fire Arrow, and shoot hanging boxes with arrows to set free and crushing the enemy below. The objects you can use will glow blue in Focus mode.

Alternately, there is a very easy way to unlock this trophy in chapter 3. Once you are inside the House of Blossoms, head east. You’ll eventually come to the basement. Drop down from behind the opium machine that the prostitute was standing in front of. Once you are below it, disarm the control box. After that, go to the front of the machine and pull the lever. This will knock out all of the enemies in the brothel and the trophy will pop.

Priceless – Bronze

– Complete a collectible set.

See the trophy What’s Yours is Mine for more details.

What’s Yours is Mine – Silver

– Complete all collectible sets.

There are 82 collectibles across the missions and city. If you miss any collectible during a mission you can replay it, even after you’ve completed the game. Pressing up on the D-Pad during a mission and going to the Statistics page under Player Progression will tell you how many you’ve collected. Some of the collectibles require certain equipment in order to obtain them so make sure you are constantly stocking up on equipment. Make sure you buy the razor, wire cutters and screwdriver as soon as you can. Those will be needed to reach some collectibles.

Hidden Agenda – Bronze

– Discover 15 secret areas.

See the trophy Finders Keepers for more details.

Finders Keepers – Silver

– Discover all secret areas.

Secret areas are a couple of different things. They are vents that you’ll need to go through, windows that you need to climb through, or even secret rooms behind walls. There are a total of 73 hidden areas. When you find one you’ll hear mysterious type music for a few seconds. You’ll hear the sound even if you’ve already been there. Almost all of the secret areas are tied to loot and or collectibles, as they are hidden in the secret areas. So if you’re collecting those you are also unlocking secret areas. Unfortunately, the only way to know how many you’ve gotten, is to to buy the mobile phone companion Thief app. The secret areas are located in The City and in chapters 2 through 8. Rope Darts are used to reach a lot of secret areas so make sure you are stocking up on those frequently. There are no hidden areas in chapter 1.

  • Chapter 2 – 7 Hidden Areas
  • Chapter 3 – 5 Hidden Areas
  • Chapter 4 – 4 Hidden Areas
  • Chapter 5 – 5 Hidden Areas
  • Chapter 6 – 5 Hidden Areas
  • Chapter 7 – 4 Hidden Areas

  • The City – 41 Hidden Areas

Cache Dispenser – Gold

– Use 40,000 gold.

All you need to do to earn this trophy is to spend money. It’s all accumulative, so you don’t have to spend 40,000 gold at once. You’ll earn 30,000 gold for collecting all of the collectibles and you’ll earn well over 10,000 gold while playing through the game. Just keep spending it at merchants.

Working Overtime – Silver

– Complete all Client Jobs in the City.

There are only six Client Jobs to be completed for this trophy; three jobs from Vittori and three jobs from Ector. You’ll meet Vittori in Chapter 3. Ector is met by accepting and completing missions from Basso (one of the missions will be to meet him). You won’t be able to complete all six missions until you’ve completed Chapter 6 of the main story.

Dastardly Deeds – Gold

– Complete all Basso Jobs in the City.

You’ll meet Basso just after Chapter 1. As soon as you meet him you can talk to him and he will give you missions to complete. He will have lists of missions so select them all at once. There are 25 total to complete throughout the game. You won’t be able to complete them all until you have completed Chapter 6.

All That Glitters – Bronze

– Steal 5 collectibles.

See the trophy Obsessive Compulsive for more details.

Old Habits Die Hard – Bronze

– Find all the secret stashes in Moira.

This trophy is earned during Chapter 5. There are  hidden loot areas that are all located in the beginning of the mission in the men’s and female ward. There are no enemies here so you can run through the level collecting everything. I’ll be honest here, I don’t know what loot is considered regular loot or a secret stash. Just collect everything in the 2 wards until you earn this trophy. Look for vents and reachable ledges. Those 2 things almost always lead to loot.

Two-Faced – Bronze

– Uncover Lyegrove’s secret.

This trophy is earned in Chapter 1. You’ll need to find 2 masks hidden inside the jewelry store. One is behind a painting in a safe down in the cellar, the lock combo is 739. The second mask will be in the showroom with in a drawer. The objective marker will point you toward this one.

More Heist Less Speed – Silver

– Finish the game in 15 hours or more.

This trophy shouldn’t cause you too many problems. Searching for collectibles and completing all of the side missions should give you more than 15 hours by the time you finish the game. One thing you need to know is that chapter 7 is a point of no return. Once you finish chapter 7, you’ll automatically begin the final chapter. To be safe, it’s good to be around 14 hours when you start chapter 7. If you are not close to 15 hours, you can sit in the shadows and let the game clock continue to run.
