At the Computer History Museum in California last week, Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida was interviewed by Mark Cerny and they went over his early years with PlayStation, while also making time to mention him being banned from Nintendo’s Miiverse.
Following that Q&A session, Shuhei caught up with Re/code, where he said Sony will “shift to [be] service-oriented” with the PlayStation Now launch this summer in the US. This basically means they’ll bring their games to new platforms and devices, but it also had the site asking Shuhei: Will there be a need for a PS5?
Here’s what Shuhei had to say:
It’s really up to the game creators. If they still feel that we need more machine power – ‘We want to realize this and that and that, but we cannot do [it] with PS4′ – if that’s the case, there’s a good reason to have PS5, so that developers can create their vision. So, we’ll see.
Late last year, PlayStation’s Scott Rohde talked about the PS5 and said, “Very soon, we’ll start thinking about what we’ll do next,” so we’ll just have to wait and see if it eventually becomes a reality.
