Before Wolfenstein: The New Order launched to favorable reviews and a 4th place finish in the NPD charts for May 2014, Creative Director Jens Matthies revealed in a Reddit AMA on May 9 that “we have lots of ideas for a sequel and we’d love to do one. It hinges on the financial success of this one, of course.”
Well, speaking with GiantBomb recently, Matthies explained what he thought of the reception for The New Order:
I feel extremely happy about the game that we made. It’s very much the game that we set up to do, which is extremely rare. It’s the first time I feel like the game we shipped was the game that we wanted to make. While there are a few people that didn’t really get that, in terms of the critical reception, there has been a lot of people that did get it. We’re very happy about that. And, of course, you always pay attention to what people think. Not just the media, but individuals in various places. And see what parts they gravitate to, as opposed to the parts that you gravitate to and so forth.
When the question of a sequel popped up in this new interview, Matthies replied, “We would love to do a sequel. We have a very, very clear idea of what we accomplished with this game, and what we want to accomplish with a sequel.” Although non-committal, Matthies did finish the interview by saying it “would be wonderful” to create a sequel.
Based on the early success of Wolfenstein: The New Order, do you think a sequel is inevitable?
