With the PlayStation Now open beta going live tomorrow, July 31, in the United States and Canada for PlayStation 4 owners, Sony’s been relatively quiet on details.
To try to get some information, IGN caught up with PlayStation Now Senior Director Jack Buser, who revealed that there are 50 companies signed up to bring their games to PlayStation Now, with 100 PS3 games available to play at open beta launch, and more titles will be added over time.
As for the potential of adding a Netflix-esque subscription option to PlayStation Now (instead of just renting game-by-game), Buser said:
We’re working diligently to bring a subscription option to gamers to compliment our rental offering for PlayStation Now. We believe that offering both of these options would provide gamers the freedom to discover and play games in ways that weren’t before possible.
Despite them working diligently, Buser said he doesn’t know when a subscription option might be available, and nothing is confirmed as of yet.
When it comes to the pricing structure of PlayStation Now right now, Buser said that they’ll continue to look at feedback throughout the beta, some games will be offered at a rental price as low as $1.99, and a “rent-to-buy” option is being looked at.
