Update (9:05am PT):
Ask PlayStation has finally confirmed that “PSN is online.” If you’re still experiencing problems with the PSN, they say, “Power cycle your network devices and your console: [details on PlayStation Support], then try again.”
While we can still hold out hope that PSN name changes will come at some point, Ask PlayStation replied to someone today about this issue by saying, “Once an Online ID has been created for a Sony Entertainment Network account, it cannot be changed.”
Original Story:
At 10:30pm PT/1:30am ET last night, both PlayStation and Ask PlayStation tweeted out to confirm that the PlayStation Network was experiencing drops:
We’re aware that some players are seeing drops on PSN. Engineers are on the case and investigating.
As of this morning, people are reporting the PSN is back online and successful connections are happening, but the PSN Status from Sony still has the “Heavy Network Traffic” disclaimer, which it’s had since the end of December. They add, “Some latency may be experienced due to high volume.”
Despite those reports of the PSN issues being cleared up, Ask PlayStation and PlayStation have been quiet since their initial announcement of the drops, so we’ll just have to keep waiting to see if they give the all clear today. Stay tuned for any updates as they arrive.
Did you experience PSN downtime last night? Are you still unable to connect to the PSN?
