Developed by Redacted Studios and published by Versus Evil, Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma Volume 1 is releasing on September 22 in North America and Europe for PlayStation 4 and PC, with an Xbox One release coming a little later.
Along with Volume 1 on its own for $14.99, you’ll be able to purchase a special Trilogy bundle containing all three volumes for 20% off, while PlayStation Plus members will get the bundle for 30% off. Volumes 2 and 3 are scheduled to “launch at a later date.”
Picking up where the last game left off, Afro Samurai 2 is a third-person action game that will be delivered in three distinct volumes, each with its own new story arch, characters, and combat styles to master. The story follows Kuma, a cybernetically enhanced killing machine with a bear’s head who was made to kill Afro.
Versus Evil GM Steve Escalante said:
A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into getting Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma to this launch. The developer, Redacted Studios, has been dreaming of launching this game, the way you are going to play it and experience it over the course of several volumes. It is a hip-hop opera that folds in a tragic family story with action packed samurai action and a soundtrack from some amazing indie hip-hop artists. We can’t wait for the fans to get to experience the next phase in Afro Samurai action.
Asked if you should play the first game before Afro Samurai 2, Versus Evil Community Director Lance James said, “We’ve got a lot of flashbacks and info to help new players understand what is going on – however, reading the manga, or watching the Spike TV series will certainly help you get an idea of the world and the characters. Our friends at RevoltTV are posting the episodes from the series now actually should you want to watch there.”
