A sequel of sorts to Hardware: Online Arena, one of the PlayStation 2’s first online games, Hardware: Rivals from a new internal development group at Sony is coming exclusively to PlayStation 4 as a digital title.
Building “upon the legacy” of the PS2 title, Rivals features some developers from the original game and introduces new upgrades and features, while keeping the spirit of the original online vehicle combat gameplay the same.
Daniel Durmin of developer Sony Computer Entertainment Connected Content Group added:
With multiple maps, game modes, challenges, and special events, Hardware: Rivals lets you jump online for some frenetic vehicle-on-vehicle combat. You can go in as a lone wolf or as part of a team, and on top of our regular game modes we also have a constantly updating schedule of special events that add new twists to the game.
Fast Attack Vehicles give you agility and quick access to those tricky weapon pickups, but you can’t get complacent out in the open. Tanks are less nimble but can take a hit and bring hefty firepower and a formidable presence to the battlefield.
Along with being able to challenge your friends and hunt down your rivals, Rivals allows you to unlock vehicle upgrades.
A release window wasn’t given for Hardware: Rivals, though we do know a beta will be run in “the near future.”
