Universal PS4 Media Remote Launches Later This Month in North America

Revealed earlier this year by Amazon and GameStop, Sony has confirmed that the Universal Media Remote for PlayStation 4 will launch later this month in the United States, Canada, and Mexico for $29.99.

Using Bluetooth to control the PS4, and able to control up to three more devices (TV, cable box, audio receiver), the media remote includes “many of the most important buttons for navigating system menus and entertainment apps on PS4 including the Action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, and square). Like DualShock 4, the remote also features the SHARE, OPTIONS, and PS buttons.”

Here’s the apps and services fully compatible with the remote at launch, with more coming later:

  • Blu-ray Disc Player
  • Crunchyroll
  • FUNimation
  • HBO GO
  • Media Player
  • NBA Game Time
  • Netflix
  • NFL Sunday Ticket
  • PlayStation Video
  • PlayStation Vue
  • Twitch
  • YouTube

Anand Agarwal, Senior Manager of Platforms Marketing at Sony, added that, since they worked closely with Performance Designed Products (PDP), the remote “will let you turn on the system, navigate the UI, and control video content on apps like Netflix or on Blu-rays and DVDs.”

You can pre-order the remote over here, with Amazon saying it will release on October 27.

As for Europe, PDP previously said, “We are in the process of getting this product made available for Europe. We hope to be able to for Q4 this year but [it’s] still to be confirmed.”
