NBA 2K16 Road to the Finals Heralds Take-Two’s Foray Into Competitive Gaming

Take-Two is the latest publisher to enter the competitive eSports scene with NBA 2K16 Road to the Finals, a new tournament boasting a top prize of $250,000.

Kicking off on February 15 and running right through until the NBA Finals in June, Alfie Brody, VP of Marketing for NBA 2K, outlined the competition in a press release.

“As the world of competitive gaming continues to evolve, NBA 2K is a natural fit to join the growing landscape. Our series has long inspired rivalry among gamers, and we’re looking forward to encouraging our fans to enjoy the thrill of competition on a larger scale.”

From February 15 through May 8, a series of in-game challenges and competitions will ultimately determine a list of 16 finalists, leading to a single elimination event that features said candidates on May 21. Playing across PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the winners from each respective platform will then face off for the grand prize.

Greg Thomas, president of Visual Concepts at NBA 2K, add that “the NBA 2K development team has aspired to join the exciting world of eSports for years. Road to the Finals is our first step, and we can’t wait to add even more excitement and competitive action to our franchise.”

NBA 2K16 Road to the Finals will tip off on February 15.
