Beginning on February 12 for PlayStation 4 and February 19 for PC, the Hitman beta received a launch trailer today, showing that it takes place 20 years ago at a top secret training facility and revolves around how Agent 47 joined the ICA.
“The Prologue contains an introduction to the gameplay features and mechanics in HITMAN, and two free-form training hits,” developer Io-Interactive adds. “You’ll be able to replay each hit as many times as you wish throughout the beta period to complete the challenges and the multiple ways to take down your target – as you would expect.”
To participate in the beta, you’ll need to pre-order Hitman digitally on PS4 or PC, or pre-order the Collector’s Edition. If you pre-order through the PlayStation Store or Steam, you won’t require a code for access. By pre-ordering through other retailers, you’ll receive a download code from them before the beta starts.
In the beta FAQ, Io-Interactive explains that the PS4 test begins at 8am PT/11am ET on February 12 and ends on February 15 at 8am PT/11am ET in North America. For Europe, it runs from February 12 at 11am CET until February 15 at 11am CET.
A 4.7GB download on PS4 (and roughly the same on PC), the Hitman beta will allow you to share videos, screenshots, and streams, with very few restrictions put in place. Additionally, Io-Interactive revealed that “all [beta] progress will be reset for the game’s launch,” the beta is available in English only, you will need an internet connection to download and play the beta, Contracts Mode won’t be in the beta, and you won’t need a PlayStation Plus membership to play the PS4 beta, unless you live in Germany.
For feedback, Io-Interactive would prefer you put it in the beta area of the Square Enix Forums, though they will be sending out a survey once it’s over. Their goal with the beta is to “make sure our infrastructure and technology is ready and primed for [launch],” and they’ll also use the test to refine and improve the game based on where you die and which items are used the most.
Hitman begins its episodic launch on March 11 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
