Respawn Entertainment boss, Vince Zampella, has said that he wants Titanfall 2 to “appeal to as many people as possible” with the help of a brand new campaign mode and more. In an interview with Eurogamer, he said that the developers are spending years “pouring everything” they can into the upcoming title to attract more players. Lead single-player designer, Mackey McCandlish, added:
For as long as there were single-player campaigns, no one got too upset. There were people really into competitive multiplayer who said, ‘I don’t know why they bother.’
But then we took the campaign and suddenly people come out the woodwork, like ‘what did you do with the campaign?!’, like some dark matter of players out there who got all vocal. It’s different audiences.
Titanfall 2‘s story won’t be tacked on, however. Apparently, people were really interested in a proper campaign, thanks in part to its intriguing world. Zampella continued:
I think it has to do with the universe. We tried to put some of that into the multiplayer first time around and teased it, and people’s interest was piqued.
Interestingly, Titanfall 2 will be competing with the likes of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which comes packaged with a Modern Warfare remaster. For those who don’t remember, a lot of folks from Respawn worked on the original Modern Warfare back in the day before Infinity Ward co-founders, Zampella and Jason West, left to open the Titanfall studio after a legal battle. What does Zampella think about the remaster?
I told them – don’t f*** it up. That’s my on the record response. I rang them up and said, honestly, don’t f*** it up. It’s a huge part of people’s gaming memories.
Titanfall 2 will be out on October 28 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
